Grand Narrows Bridge

The bridge trusses had been prefabricated in Montreal by the Dominion Bridge Company, and were shipped to Grand Narrows.

At midnight on October 18, 1890 the five-car special train of Governor General Lord Stanley left Halifax, and arrived at Mulgrave in the early morning.


Grand Narrows, Nova Scotia

The community came to prominence during the 1880s after the Intercolonial Railway built its line from the Strait of Canso to Sydney, crossing the Barra Strait between Iona and Grand Narrows with the Grand Narrows Bridge, still in use, which is the longest railway bridge in Nova Scotia.
