Johann Wilhelm Wilms

in 1816 won the open competition for the new Dutch anthem with Wien Neêrlandsch bloed (with lyrics by Hendrik Tollens), leading to lots of commission from churches and other organizations.

Wien Neêrlands Bloed

A competition was accordingly organized by Admiral Jan Hendrik van Kinsbergen which was won by the Dutch poet Hendrik Tollens (1780–1856) with his poem Wien Neerlandsch bloed …, which, after some failed attempts by less gifted composers, was set to music by Johann Wilhelm Wilms (1772–1847), a German expatriate living in Amsterdam.

(from The Shipwreck, Canto I) were used as a motto for Tafereel van de overwintering der Hollanders op Nova Zembla in de jaren 1596 en 1597 (1820) by the Dutch poet Hendrik Tollens (1780–1856).
