For her sport achievements, on November 22, 2005 president Aleksander Kwaśniewski awarded her a Golden Cross of Merit.
Initial investigations said Alano was speeding along the westbound lane of Marcos Highway near SM City Marikina when her sport utility vehicle (Ford Everest) hit the concrete barrier of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority at the center island.
In the same year, U.S. bicycle racer Tammy Thomas was caught using it and was banned from her sport.
