The centerpiece, the courthouse itself, was designed by Horatio Nelson White, and built in 1861-62.
Architects whose work is represented in the district include Stanford White ("The Boulders", 100 East Genesee Street, 1881) and Horatio Nelson White (St. James' Episcopal Church, 94 East Genesee Street, 1873).
It was built in 1876 and designed by noted architect Horatio Nelson White (1814–1892) as the home for railroad car magnate Webster Wagner (1817–1882).
