House of Palatinate-Simmern

The Palatinate line of the House of Wittelsbach was divided into four lines after the death of Rupert III in 1410, including the line of Palatinate-Simmern with its capital in Simmern.

From 1901 to 1983, the village was a stop on the old SimmernKastellaunBoppard Hunsrückbahn (railway).

Elisabeth of Saxony

She married on 4 June 1570 in Heidelberg during the Diet of Speyer with Count Palatine John Casimir of Simmern (1543–1592).

Eremitage Maria Reizenborn

The Hermitage is located on a pilgrimage route of Simmern nearby Spabrücken, which crosses the Soonwald back.

Frederick IV, Elector Palatine

Born in Amberg, his father died in October 1583 and Frederick came under the guardianship of his uncle John Casimir, an ardent Calvinist.

Kümbdchen

Kümbdchen belonged to the old mother church in Simmern and later passed along with Simmern to the Raugraves at the Altenbaumburg (castle, now in ruins, in today’s Ortsgemeinde of Altenbamberg near Bad Kreuznach), in whose ownership it remained until they sold the town of Simmern to the Counts Palatine in 1359.

The municipality lies in the Hunsrück roughly 9 km northeast of Simmern and 8 km northwest of Rheinböllen, above the Grundbach just upstream from where it empties into the Simmerbach near Kisselbach.

The community belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde of Montabaur, a kind of collective municipality.
