It follows the New South Wales curriculum where final year (grade twelve) students can either pursue the Higher School Certificate of the New South Wales Board of Studies or the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (since September 2005 when it became an IB World School).
During their first five years the students follow the IB Middle Years Programme or IBMYP and during their last two years they follow the IB Diploma Programme or IBDP.
The medium of instruction is English and the curriculum includes the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Diploma Programme (DP) of the International Baccalaureate Organisation of Geneva and the International General Certificate of Secondary Education of the University of Cambridge, England.
The school enters students for the International Baccalaureate, the Cambridge International Examinations International General Certificate of Secondary Education, College Board tests, Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music exams and Diplôme d'études en langue française, among others.
In December 1995 the senior department was accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organisation to teach the IB Diploma Programme; in 2003,to teach the IB Middle Years Programme, and the following year the junior department the IB Primary Years Programme.
Southbank Westminster offers the IB Middle Years Programme (grade 6 to 10) and the IB Diploma Programme (grades 11 and 12).
