In July 2003, CS became the ISO 3166-1 code for Serbia and Montenegro (Srbija i Crna Gora in Serbian), and remained so until 2006, when the country split and the codes for domains .rs and .me were created.
The same technique can be used to map two-letter country codes like "us" or "za" to country names (262=676 table entries), 5-digit zip codes like 13083 to city names (100000 entries), etc.
Thus, the name appears on postage stamps, coins and other uses; the full name, Confœderatio Helvetica, is abbreviated for uses such as the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 and vehicle registration code CH, and the ccTLD, .ch.
For provinces, the two-letter part is an abbreviation of the province name, such as 'PG' for Perugia, although, as an exception, the code for Medio Campidano (IT-VS) is based on its two capitals, Villacidro and Sanluri.
The three special administrative regions, i.e., the Kaesong Industrial Region, the Mount Kumgang Tourist Region, and the Sinuiju Special Administrative Region, are not listed.
The codes 01–67 are assigned in Turkish alphabetical order, except Kahramanmaraş and Şanlıurfa, whose codes are assigned based on their historic names, Maraş and Urfa respectively.

Subdivision names are sorted in Turkish alphabetical order: a-c, ç, d-g, ğ, h, ı, i-o, ö, p-s, ş, t-u, ü, v-z.
Currently for Vietnam, ISO 3166-2 codes are defined for 59 provinces and 5 municipalities.
However, alpha-2 codes which were deleted before the popularization of the Domain Name System in the late 1980s and early 1990s were never used for the Internet's country code top-level domains (ccTLDs).
XX: represents the two letter ISO country code or ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code (e.g. AU for Australia, US for United States, NZ for New Zealand, GB for United Kingdom).
To keep the matrix as compact as possible and to illustrate distribution, countries are represented by ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country code, followed by the number of units present.
In Algeria, the postal codes of province capitals are composed of the province code as in ISO 3166-2:DZ and three zeros, for example: 16000 for Algiers, while the postal codes of other cities, towns, and villages in the province are the provincial code followed by three numerals.
