8 unusual facts about ISO image

Fedora Unity

The Fedora Unity project produces ISO images for i386 and x86 64 architectures that are available as Jigdo downloads, containing slipstreamed installation media.

ISO image

A more recent example is the release of hybrid ISO files that can be booted or started from both BD or DVD and USB flash drive devices when the image is written to any of these storage devices.

Most software that is capable of writing ISO images to hard disks or writable (CD / DVD / BD) ROMS is generally not able to write ISO disk images to flash drives.

Video CDs and Super Video CDs require at least two tracks on a CD, so it is also not possible to store an image of one of these discs inside an ISO image file.

This file format can be used to create Live USB environments through a low-level copy (for example with the Unix dd command) to a USB key.

PlayStation 2 technical specifications

For example, the PS2 BIOS will not boot an ISO image from a USB flash drive or operate a USB printer, as the machine's operating system does not include this functionality.

Steve McIntyre

His best known contributions have been in the field of creating Debian CD/DVD images; he is the debian-cd team leader and is responsible for generating the official images.

Zophar's Domain

As of July 2012, Zophar's Domain no longer provides commercial ROMs and ISOs; they only provide public domain ROMs now.

Hanyu Da Cidian

This version includes SecuROM DRM copy protection software in its installation, possibly in response to the earlier version's ISO image being illegally distributed on VeryCD.
