Indianapolis On The Air, a weekly radio series begun in 1994, is produced by WFYI in Indianapolis and is syndicated to over 250 radio stations in 38 states.

The symphony announced on October 19, 2010, that Krzysztof Urbanski would become the seventh music director in the organization's eight-decade history, as well as the youngest musician to lead the orchestra.

After his graduation from Curtis in 1936, he played two seasons in the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra under Fabien Sevitzky.
Following the path of his dual interests, he was a member of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra (1941), the Claude Thornhill Orchestra (1942), the Army Air Corps band during World War II (1942–1945), the Cleveland Orchestra (1945–1946), the Tex Beneke Orchestra (1946–1949), and the Stan Kenton Orchestra (1950–1953).
These include the Philadelphia Orchestra (she was a founding member of its Chamber Group), Boston Pops Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, The Queensland Orchestra, Canberra Symphony Orchestra, and West Australian Symphony Orchestra.
Since then, she has been a soloist with orchestras around the world, including the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra in Durban, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
He taught at the Yale School of Music, played piccolo for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, and held many part-time playing and teaching positions throughout his career.
In 2008, he premièred with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Mario Venzago Louis Ballard's Indiana Concerto, the only piano concerto ever written by a Native American composer, and in 2009, the Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 2 by Lorenzo Ferrero, with the orchestra of the Teatro Comunale Florence under Kazushi Ono.
