Currently (2009) directing the Jon Fosse play Flicka i gul regnjacka (Girl in Yellow Raincoat) at Dramaten, starring Stina Ekblad and Irene Lindh, which premiered on October 9.
Mathisen has also written commissioned work Lysande Mørker for the reopening of Oslo Domkirke in 2010 together with Jon Fosse, and the commissioned work Timeless Tales for Vestfold Festspillene in 2009.
He has also released two albums cooperating with the poet Jon Fosse.
Jon Fosse created an homage to Hertervig with his 1995 novel Melancholia I, and also wrote the libretto for Georg Friedrich Haas's opera adaptation Melancholia which premiered at the Opera Garnier in Paris on 9 June 2008 on stage by Stanislas Nordey (Lawrence Olivier Award 2008 for a new opera) and costumes of Raoul Fernandez.
In 2004, she translated and directed Jon Fosse’s Night Sings Its Songs at the Culture Project in New York City, and the following year she directed The Asphalt Kiss by Nelson Rodrigues at the Off-Broadway 59E59 Theaters.
