Illustrations were an important part of the Weekly’s content, and it developed a reputation for using some of the most renowned illustrators of the time, notably Winslow Homer, Granville Perkins and Livingston Hopkins.
He died on 21 August 1927 at Mosman, Sydney, aged 81 and was survived by a son and four daughters.
In the early 1880s Livingston Hopkins established the Artist’s Camp at the northern part of Balmoral Beach near what now is Awaba Street.
Having handed over the editorship to Archibald, Traill in 1883 went to America and engaged Livingston Hopkins as a comic draughtsman, and about two years later travelled to England and engaged Phil May for similar work.
