Mainline Steam is a New Zealand organisation devoted to the restoration and operation of historic New Zealand Railways mainline steam locomotives.

The organisation regularly operates excursions out of Auckland and Christchurch, the latter operating excursions primarily along the highly scenic Midland Line.
The EW was not sold until August 2005 when it was purchased by Ian Welch of the Mainline Steam Trust.
Woodville is occasionally either a waypoint or a destination for excursion passenger trains operated by local rail heritage organisations such as Mainline Steam and Steam Incorporated.

This section of the former Midland Railway's main line to Manchester was closed to passengers in 1968 (the same year mainline steam came to an end) as a consequence of the Beeching cuts and the recent electrification of the West coast route from London Euston to Manchester.
It is also served by CrossCountry trains and by the West Somerset Railway on special event days and by mainline steam excursions.
