He worked as an associate at the law firm of Heller, Ehrman, White & McAuliffe in San Francisco, California, from 1998 to 1999.

After graduation, he went to Bombay with a note from his father introducing him to Viren J. Shah working in Mukand Iron & Steel Works Limited to apply for its engineering programme.
Shah was also a well regarded Sanskrit teacher at St. Columba's School, Delhi for several years, before he became Director, National School of Drama (New Delhi).
In 1963, although a Muslim, Sidiq Koya, was elected, the Government continued with its policy and nominated Ra farmer, Shah, also a Muslim, to the Legislative Council.
