Pogogyne abramsii – an endangered plant found on the grounds of MCAS Miramar.
In the film Top Gun, the music (without the lyrics) is played in the first training session at Miramar, while the full version with the lyrics played as the credits rolled over the sunset at the end of the film.

The 1st Dental Battalion runs 10 dental clinics on MCB Camp Pendleton and also runs clinics at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, and Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport, California.
She previously gained notability during her work at Naval Air Station Miramar, where she was the inspiration for the Top Gun character "Charlie", played by Kelly McGillis in the movie.
