The Fred J. Hume Award was first presented after the Canucks' inaugural season in 1970–71 and was named after former Mayor of Vancouver Fred J. Hume, who was also owner of the Canucks while they were in the Western Hockey League and an active campaigner to bring the NHL to Vancouver.
Peter Ladner was the NPA's nominee for mayor in the 2008 Vancouver civic election on November 15, 2008, but lost to Gregor Robertson, the candidate for Vision Vancouver.

William Harold Malkin (30 July 1868 – 11 October 1959) was the 21st mayor of Vancouver, British Columbia from 1929 to 1930, after serving as Chairman of the Vancouver Board of Trade in 1902.
