Initially Johann Lair von Siegburg, he was born at Sieglar, near Troisdorf in Germany, and was educated at the University of Cologne.
The line has four stations, Siegburg/Bonn, Montabaur, Limburg Süd and Frankfurt Airport.
Since 1997 the Edith Stein Retreat House of the Archdiocese of Cologne has operated at this location, using the north wing and also a large part of the west wing of the abbey.

In 1941 the abbey was again dissolved, this time by the Schutzstaffel (SS); the monks were expelled and the buildings commandeered.
Rüeggisberg Priory - The original foundation of uncertain date, made by Lütold of Rümligen, was turned into the first Cluniac house in the German-speaking world by Cuno of Siegburg and Ulrich of Zell in about 1072, when the first cells were built.
