This is a relatively rarer style, and Carter states that he was particularly influenced by Albertus (1932–40) by Berthold Wolpe, also of Monotype.
In addition to her road signs, she has designed commercial fonts for Monotype, including the eponymous Calvert font, which she created in 1980 for use on the Tyne and Wear Metro system.
