The channel begins in São Vicente's northwesternmost cape near Monte Cara up to the point of João Evora in the northeast.
Its coast is mainly rocky to the north and west, the shoreline is sandy to the south and by the northern part of Monte Cara in which the point is named Morro Branco where it extends up to as high as 60 to 80 m.
The area offers a panoramic view of most of the western and the central portions of the island and features the Mindelo area, Monte Cara and Monte Verde.
