Prior to his service in the State Assembly, Wesson served as the chief-of-staff to former Los Angeles City Councilmember Nate Holden, and as the chief-of-staff to former Los Angeles County Supervisor Yvonne Burke.
Nate Holden was a state senator before he became councilman.
He has since worked as a staffer for former Councilman Nate Holden and current councilman Bernard Parks.
He died of natural causes in Los Angeles, California on December 18, 2000 at age 90, a week after attending the groundbreaking ceremonies for the Performing Arts Center named for Los Angeles politician Nate Holden which was built on the site where the Ebony Showcase stood.
Los Angeles Unified School District (known as LAUSD) wanted to build a school on the site since the 1980s, but was met with resistance: Donald Trump wanted to build the world's tallest building on the site, and Mayor Tom Bradley, Nate Holden, and LA's business community were strongly opposed to using the location as a school.
