John Norris, rector from 1692 until 1711, a philosopher, poet and theologian whose metaphysics were closely associated with those of Nicolas Malebranche.
Lewin received his doctorate in philosophy with a thesis on the subject of the French idealist pantheist Nicolas Malebranche, and his work is still cited today in philosophical works on this subject.
Malebranche also developed an original theory related to preformationism, postulating that each embryo probably contained even smaller embryos ad infinitum, like a Matryoshka doll.
