As a player, he played as a winger for Bodø/Glimt and Vålerenga, and won the Norwegian Cup in 1993 and 2002.
His first and only 90-minute appearance was against Bodø/Glimt in the Norwegian Cup, in which he delivered a fine cross to Dylan Macallister for the 1–0 goal and the win.
It played in the highest Norwegian league for many years, and became runners-up in the Norwegian Cup in 1989.
He was still with the club when they were promoted to the First Division again in 1988, and he lifted the trophy when the club won the Norwegian Cup in 1989 by beating Molde in the final.
