C. Singer was an American engineer (and the nephew of Isaac Singer, inventor of the sewing machine) who worked on secret projects for the benefit of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War and who invented the spar torpedo.
His pupils included Henry Bradford Smith, Edwin Ray Guthrie Jr., C. West Churchman, Russell L. Ackoff and Gordon Clark.

He lives in Toronto with his wife, Heather Gilley, and his family, and has served his community as Board Chair of Branksome Hall, an internationally-minded school for girls.
