As such, he represented, and spoke on behalf of the President-elect, at the inauguration of Governor of Puerto Rico Luis Fortuño, who although a Republican, heads a bipartisan administration that includes two notable Democrats, Resident Commissioner Pedro Pierluisi and Kenneth McClintock, who was appointed by Fortuño as Secretary of State, and first in the line of succession.

She subsequently campaigned for Obama's presidential campaign in Orlando, Florida in a historic campaign swing that brought together pro-statehood Democrats such as her, Resident Commissioner Pedro Pierluisi and then-Senate President McClintock, along with pro-Commonwealth Democrats such as Democratic Party state chair Roberto Prats and Senator Eduardo Bhatia.
On August 1, 2013, the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee held a hearing on Puerto Rico's status as a direct result of the 2012 plebiscite vote and invited Governor Alejandro García Padilla, Resident Commissioner Pedro Pierluisi, and pro-independence supporter Rubén Berríos to give testimony and answer questions from the committee.
Incumbent Resident Representative Pedro Pierluisi won re-election on November 6, 2012 by a 1.28% margin, with 48.44% of the vote, while Cox Alomar placed second with 47.16%.
