The station was launched in 1992 under the name of Pirate FM 102 with the voice of breakfast presenter Roger Day (a well-known ex-pirate DJ from Radio Caroline and Radio North Sea International).
Since then, Day has been heard on many commercial stations throughout the UK including Manchester's Piccadilly Radio, Birmingham's BRMB, Radio West in Bristol, Invicta Radio/Invicta Supergold in Kent, Pirate FM in Cornwall, Jazz FM in London, County Sound in Surrey, Amber Radio in Suffolk and Fusion 107.3 in London.

From 1992 to 2002, she was a non-executive director of Cornwall Independent Radio, becoming also a founding director of Pirate FM, and served as a member of Restormel Borough Council from 2003 until it came to an end in 2009.
