The district boasts great ecological value, with an abundance of hawthorn, globularia, mastic, Kermes Oak and chamaerops.
There are delicate, artistic examples made of silver in antiquity, as well as from mastic wood with the Romans.

Over most of the island untilled ground bears a grazed covering of garrigue, largely composed of low bushes of Cistus, Genista sphacelata, Calycotoime villosa, Lithospermum hispidulum, Phaganalon rupestre and, locally, Pistacia lentiscus.
This zone is mostly used for agriculture, but studies say Mastic (Pistacia lentiscus), Common Juniper (Juniperus communis), (Aristolochia baetica) and Mediterranean Smilax or Common Smilax (Smilax aspera) would normally grow here.
