Many leaders of the church have been alumni of the academy, including Popes Clement XIII, Leo XII, Leo XIII, Benedict XV, and Paul VI.

The diplomatic service of the Holy See can be traced back to the First Council of Nicaea when Pope Sylvester I sent legates to represent him during the discussions of the council.


Robert Seton

He was born in Pisa, Italy, and educated in Mount St. Mary's College of Emmitsburg, Maryland, and in the Academia Ecclesiastica, Rome, where he was graduated with the degree of D.D. In 1866 he was raised to the rank of private chamberlain to Pope Pius IX.
