The bay runs from Porto Cais in the west to the island's northeasternmost point.
The Atlantic Ocean is to the north and Ponto Cais, a point is to the north making it the island's northernmost point, a small islet named the Ilhéu Laja Branca lies to the northeast at about 500 m offshore.
