Portuguese irregular forces in the Overseas War

In Portuguese Guinea, General Spínola introduced the term African Force to designate the irregular forces composed of natives of the province.

Sapper Divers Detachments

The unit was created and activated near the end of 1972 (during the Portuguese Colonial War), due to operational imperatives of the activities of Guinea’s Maritime Defense Command.


Caçadores

Later, battalions of Caçadores Paraquedistas were also created in Portuguese Angola, Portuguese Mozambique and Portuguese Guinea.
