During the Second World War, it was a popular drinking-place for personnel of the nearby RAF Coltishall airfield.

Denis Crowley-Milling

The squadron moved to RAF Coltishall and Crowley-Milling flew as No. 2 to the new commanding officer Douglas Bader.

Thunder and Lightnings

Set in Norfolk, it features a developing friendship between two boys who share an interest in aeroplanes, living near RAF Coltishall during the months in 1974 when the Royal Air Force is phasing out its Lightning fighters and introducing the Jaguar.
