British XXX corps which consisted of the British 6th Airbourne division was tasked of clearing the area East of Dinant, Rochfort, Gupont and Bure.
On 3 August 1915 between Cambrin and La Bassée, France, a German trench-mortar bomb landed on the side of the parapet of the communication trench in which Second Lieutenant Boyd-Rochfort was standing close to a small working party of his battalion.

George Arthur Boyd-Rochfort VC DL (1 January 1880 – 7 August 1940) was an Irish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
Middleton Park House was built c.1850 by George Boyd-Rochfort, who commissioned architect George Papworth to design it and oversee its construction.
They had settled in Ireland by 1243, when Sir Richard and Sir John de Rochfort were lords of Crom and Adare.
