# Poppo, Bishop of Bamberg (died December 2, 1245).
In 1017 the Emperor Henry II of Germany transferred the abbey to the diocese of Bamberg.
Henry wanted the celebrated monkish rigour and studiousness of the Hildesheim cathedral chapter - Henry himself was educated there - linked together with the churches under his control, including his favourite diocese of Bamberg.

King Henry II of Germany granted the area around Villach to the newly created Diocese of Bamberg at the Frankfurt synod of 1 November 1007, together with other Carinthian estates like Griffen or the Canal Valley around Tarvisio.
Feldkirchen, once an estate of the Eppenstein noble family, was bequeathed to the Diocese of Bamberg in 1166.
