In 2007, as the airfield was not used by the Romanian Air Force anylonger, the former Minister of Transport Radu Berceanu suggested to use the location for Bucharest's new low-cost flights airport(as the operational tariffs for Bucharest's previous low-cost hub, Aurel Vlaicu Airport, were set to grow).
Christened Alba Julia ("White Julia", registration YR-AHA) it was piloted by Romanian Air Force captain Alexander Papana.

The Aurel Vlaicu Flight School is the Romanian Air Force Application School based at Boboc, formed in 1997.
On 26 July 2010 at 1:15 P.M., two Yasur helicopters took off from the Romanian Air Force Base in Boboc and headed north toward the Carpathian mountains.
