4 unusual facts about Rose Nylund

Rose Nylund

One of the unique attractions of St. Olaf is Mt. Losenbauden, which features the faces of losing presidential candidates, complete with Adlai Stevenson twice.

It was stated that she was valedictorian in her high school graduation (fourth out of nineteen, and was chosen valedictorian because she drew the longest straw), she attended St. Paul Business School, Rockport Community College, and St. Gustaf University, but also that she had never graduated from high school (due to a case of mono).

However, Jay Sandrich, the director of the show, suggested that Rue and Betty switch parts.

St. Olaf Township, Otter Tail County, Minnesota

The township shares a name with the fictional hometown of Betty White's character Rose Nylund in the 1980s hit sitcom The Golden Girls.

Polly Holliday

Holliday also made appearances on television shows such as The Golden Girls, where she played Rose Nylund's blind sister Lily, in a recurring role as Jill Taylor's mother on Home Improvement, and a regular on The Client.
