4 unusual facts about Sarah Charlesworth

Jonathan Allen

In 2002, Allen instigated the international group show "Con Art" with American curator Helen Varola and Carol Maund which explored art and conjuring’s shared principles of ‘cunning and conning’ through a gallery exhibition (including Mark Wallinger, Simon Patterson, Sarah Charlesworth, and others), a symposium (chaired by Susan Hiller), and a live performance event including, amongst others, Forced Entertainment, Ursula Martinez, and Tommy Angel.

Sarah Charlesworth

She lived and worked both in New York City and in Falls Village, Connecticut at the time of her passing.

She is considered part of The Pictures Generation, a loose-knit group of artists working in New York in the late 1970s and early 1980s, all of whom were concerned with how images shape our everyday lives and society as a whole.

Throughout her career, Charlesworth held various teaching positions at New York University, the School of Visual Arts (NY), Hartford University (CT), and before her death taught Master Critique in the MFA Photography, Video and Related Media Program and The School of Visual Arts.

Kids of Degrassi Street featured many of the same actors who would later appear on Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High, including Stacie Mistysyn, Neil Hope, Anais Granofsky, Sarah Charlesworth and others.
