She was selected as a finalist in the Vancouver Chamber Choir's Young Composers Competition in 2007 and was also a finalist in the Schlern International Music Festival Voice Competition in Vols am Schlern, Italy in 2007.

She earned a Master of Music in Composition and a Master of Arts in Music Theory at Florida State University where she studied with Mark Wingate and Ladislav Kubik.
