In 2005 Lancashire starred in Cherished, a BBC drama in which she portrayed Angela Cannings, a British woman who was convicted of killing her two baby sons but was released when medical evidence given at her trial was deemed dubious.
The series was nominated for a BAFTA award in 2005 for Best New Director for an episode directed by the actress Sarah Lancashire.
