The station took the name of the borough it was situated in, an area called Matabiau, named after the martyrdom of Saint Saturnin, mata-bios meaning kill the bull.
Formerly consecrated to the Virgin Mary, it is now dedicated to Saint Sernin.
Randol Abbey (Abbaye Notre-Dame de Randol) is a Benedictine monastery situated at Randol near the village of Saint-Saturnin, Puy-de-Dôme department, in the Auvergne mountains of France.
