Hellmut Lange started his acting career on radio drama shows for the West-German Radio Station SFB (Sender Freies Berlin= Radio Free Berlin).
In June and July 1953, a strike by construction workers in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) led to an uprising of the people of the communist state which was violently put down by Soviet forces and the Volkspolizei.

In the post-war four-power occupation of Germany, the British Control Commission appointed Hugh Greene to restart German broadcasting in the British Zone.
In 1970, the on the eastern edge of the square located 18-story high TV centre of the Sender Freies Berlin (SFB) was finished.

Since 1958, initially with a slot in ARD including nationwide transmission of the Berlin visit of John F. Kennedy, and later distributed under SFB-frequency, Abendschau reports as an urban magazine on politics, economy, sports and timeliness in Berlin and presents sensitivities, originals and anecdotes from the districts and boroughs.
In mid-1990, she graduated with a Magister Artium from the University of Cologne and began her career in radio and television at Sender Freies Berlin (now part of Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg).
