John Kenneth Pennington (1927–25 August 2011) was a priest in the Church of England, Nottingham City Councillor and Sheriff of Nottingham.

He is perhaps best known for his role in the 1950s TV series The Adventures of Robin Hood, in which he played the malevolent Sheriff of Nottingham opposite Richard Greene's Robin Hood.
He served as the Lord Mayor of Nottingham in 2003/04, and was Sheriff of Nottingham for two years from 1991.
Folklore has it that it was in the Market Square where outlaw Robin Hood took advantage of an amnesty and won the coveted silver arrow in a contest devised by the Sheriff of Nottingham.
Shortly thereafter, Robin has a chance encounter with her cousin Will Scarlet and learns that her sister, Marian is to be wed to the Sheriff of Nottingham in her stead.
In the end, Robin and his men are pardoned by King Richard the Lionheart and his band are incorporated into the king's retinue, much to the dismay of the Sheriff of Nottingham.
One of Arnatt's most high profile roles was as "The Deputy Sheriff of Nottingham" in the fourth and final season of 1955-60 TV series The Adventures of Robin Hood starring Richard Greene.
A sympathetic portrayal of Marc as the Sheriff was presented in the Richard Kluger novel "The Sheriff of Nottingham".
