He was also a well known player at amateur clubs Stile Common and Deighton, before signing a professional contract with Huddersfield Town in 1994 at the age of 17.

On 18 April 1998 in the 1997–98 season, Baldry scored the goal that saved Huddersfield Town from relegation of the old First Division.
