This was the band's only album so far recorded as a four piece, adding future Social Distortion member Jonny "2 Bags" Wickersham as the second guitarist.

Within a Mile of Home

The review referred to the opening track "Screaming at the Wailing Wall" as a "toe-tapping, arm-in-arm Celtic boogie tune" and the following song "The Seven Deadly Sins" as a "kitchen-party Celtic assault." The review also noted that the song “To Youth (My Sweet Roisin Dubh)” sounds like a "Dublin-ized Mike Ness of Social Distortion" and that “The Wanderlust” as a combination of The Clash and The Pogues.

The band played numerous live performances with many punk acts of the day including the Bad Brains, the F.U.'s, D.O.A., the Dead Kennedys, Social Distortion and the Circle Jerks.

Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes

In April 2008, Ness told Spinner that Social Distortion was planning an acoustic album to be released in 2009, stating "I think it could be really, really neat. It's almost like a Bob Dylan/Bruce Springsteen/Johnny Cash kind of feel with a punk edge ... but acoustic. Sometimes the songs are more powerful stripped down than with full volume."

Mommy's Little Monster

Six years later, Mommy's Little Monster was re-issued once again when Ness started Time Bomb Recordings with some of the profits he made from Social Distortion's Epic releases, and reissued Mommy's Little Monster on vinyl, cassette and CD through a distribution deal with Arista Records.

Social Distortion discography

Four years elapsed before Social Distortion's next studio album, White Light, White Heat, White Trash, which peaked at #27 on the Billboard 200 in 1996, the band's highest chart position to date, and featured their only Billboard Hot 100 single "I Was Wrong".

The album's lead single, "Reach for the Sky", became another one of Social Distortion's biggest hits in the fall of 2004.

After the release of the White Light, White Heat, White Trash album, Social Distortion took another hiatus and Ness pursued a solo career and released two albums (Cheating at Solitaire and Under the Influences) in 1999.
