In 1943 a world-famous actor of the Moscow Yiddish State Art Theater, Solomon Mikhoels, together with well-known poet Itzik Feffer, toured the United States on behalf of the Jewish Antifascist Committee.
A few recordings of his music are available featuring the performances of the GOSET orchestra with Solomon Mikhoels and Benjamin Zuskin,as well as by singers Solomon Khromchenko, Misha Alexandrovich, Nekhama Lifshitz, Marina Gordon, actors Emil Gorovets, Boris Landau.
Solomon Mikhoels, the chairman of JAC and Epshtein approached Vyacheslav Molotov, the Soviet foreign minister and a Stalin henchman, with an idea to create a Jewish republic in the Crimea or in the Volga area (in place of the dismantled Volga Germans republic).
