Via her mother, Anna de Noailles is a great-great-granddaughter of Sophronius of Vratsa, one of the leading figures of the Bulgarian National Revival, through his grandson Stefan Bogoridi, caimacam of Moldavia.
He served in the Karnobat parish and went to a monastery in Arbanasi in 1794, becoming Bishop of Vratsa under the name of Sophronius on 17 September.

Charles XII of Sweden is known to have stayed overnight in the village in 1713 en route to Constantinople and Sophronius of Vratsa worked as a teacher in Karabunar in 1792–1793.
