Pearl Casias has lived on the Southern Ute reservation her entire life and is dedicated to seeing through Tribal rights, sovereignty, and the future success of her people.
Under a Special election Pearl Casias was elected as the first Chairwomen in the history of the Tribe.

Together with the Muache and Capote Utes, the Weeminuche occupied the Southern Ute Indian Reservation in southern Colorado and named their capital Ignacio in the chief's honor.
The land is managed by the United States Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management, and part of the distribution lies on private land and the Southern Ute Indian Reservation.
