18 Poems is a book of poetry written by the Welsh poet Dylan Marlais Thomas, published in 1934 as the winner of a contest sponsored by Sunday Referee.
Henry Chance Newton (13 March 1854 - 2 January 1931) was a British author and theatre critic for The Referee magazine.
In 1925/26 the paper gave front page coverage for many weeks to apparent revelations by the writer Frank Power (real name Arthur Vectis Freeman) about the sinking of HMS Hampshire and the disappearance of Herbert Horatio Kitchener ten years previously.

Having been an assistant to Edward Martell, proprietor of The Sunday Referee, it was to Martell that Speed turned when he had the idea to set up the listings magazine What's On in London.
