He then joined Bell Communications Research (Bellcore), a separate corporation from the Bell Labs (now Telcordia Technologies), as a research scientist.
The company originally established its headquarters in Livingston with dedication by New Jersey Governor Thomas Kean in 1985, but moved its headquarters to Morristown a decade later.
From 1996 to 2008, he was senior vice president of Telcordia Technologies's Networking Systems Laboratory where, among other achievements, he pioneered the creation of Internet telephony.
