The Sound Factory has been used by many top music artists including Linda Ronstadt (who recorded most of her career-defining hits there), Ringo Starr, Dolly Parton, Oingo Boingo, Brian Wilson, The Jackson 5, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Keziah Jones, LostProphets, Jinx Titanic, and The Vines.

In 1969, former RCA recording engineer and Warner/Reprise producer, David Hassinger purchased the Moonglow Records/Studio building and renamed it The Sound Factory.

He almost immediately began working at Sunset Sound Recorders and partner studio The Sound Factory, and has since been involved with many other independent projects.
The Moonglow Records building was purchased in 1969 by former RCA recording engineer and Warner Bros. Records/Reprise producer, David Hassinger who renamed it The Sound Factory.
He worked for a local drug dealer and made a living by selling drugs at popular New York City gay nightclubs, including The Sound Factory and Roxy NYC.
He began his career working with Mitchell Froom and Tchad Blake as a staff engineer at The Sound Factory in the early 90’s but would quickly move on to independent projects with Michael Penn, The Wallflowers, Sheryl Crow, Tom Waits and Fantômas.
