In 1981 Ali Manikfan was given the responsibility of making a reconstruction of an ancient Arab trading ship, the Sohar, by Irish adventurer Tim Severin.
Tim Severin commissioned the recreation of a Bronze Age galley, and in 1984 retraced the voyage of Jason.
In 1976 he joined Tim Severin in a transatlantic voyage in a replica 6th century leather-hulled curragh named Brendan.
