Tirano–Lecco railway

The section from Tirano to Sondrio had a different origin, being opened in 1902 as a private railway by the Società Anonima per le Ferrovie dell'Alta Valtellina (FAV).


5th Alpini Regiment

In 1886 the Battalions were renamed, taking their new names from the location of their main logistic depot: Morbegno, Tirano, Edolo and the newly formed Vestone.

After World War II the 5th Alpini regiment was reformed on January 1, 1953 in the city of Meran with the battalions Tirano, and Edolo and became the sole Alpini regiment in the newly formed Alpine Brigade Orobica.

Bernina-Bahngesellschaft Ge 4/4 82

After entering service in 1928, the Ge 4/4 operated on the Bernina Railway, linking St Moritz in Switzerland with Tirano in Italy, via the Bernina Pass.

Bündner Wirren

After a short training regime in the village of Tirano the battalion was sent in April 1916 to the Asiago plateau to reinforce the front, arriving just in time to feel the full brunt of the Austrian "Strafexpedition" offensive on the Asiago Plateau.
