6 unusual facts about U.S. Route 51


Boulder Junction, Wisconsin

USH 51 runs through the southwestern parts of the Town of Boulder Junction, running northwest towards Manitowish Waters and south towards Arbor Vitae, Minocqua and Woodruff.

CTH H also serves the town, providing a link from CTH K to a junction with USH 51 and Lac du Flambeau.

CTH M runs north-south from USH 51 through the unincorporated community of Boulder Junction - where it meets with CTH K - and provides the main means of accessing the community.

Lake DuBay

Interstate 39 and U.S. Route 51 provide access to the lake, as do several county highways.

Plum Lake, Wisconsin

The western section runs west from Sayner serving Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest campgrounds and recreation areas at Crystal Lake, Plum Lake, and Firefly Lake before meeting CTH M and eventually USH 51.

Winchester, Vilas County, Wisconsin

CTH W is the main route through the town, it runs east to Presque Isle and a connection with CTH B, and south to Manitowish Waters and a connection to USH 51.

SBI Route 150 originally ran from the U.S. 51/60/62 bridges south of Cairo north to Hamel (located northeast of Saint Louis, Missouri) on what is now Illinois Route 3, the portion of Illinois 150 from Chester to Steeleville, and Illinois Route 4.
